Chris Daynes

Born in Hove, Sussex, England, Chris was educated in Norfolk in the 1960’s. An Honours Degree in Fine Art at Leeds College of Art followed. Whilst keeping up his personal work, he embarked on a very rewarding teaching career lasting some 30 years, the last 25 years of it at a Kent Grammar School. Since giving up the day job in 2001, he has been fortunate to be able to paint full time. He is an ‘on the spot’ painter, mostly, making sketches and informative visual notes in oils as work in its own right and also resources for working up into larger pieces. His work takes him to the Sussex coast, the City of London and the Thames, and the North Norfolk coast amongst other places, and aims to reflect or react to the many sensations received over a period of time in the landscape when different events occur – flights of birds, noises, visiting people, changes of light and times of day.
